1. Follow steps 1-5 Layout A, making sure Perpendicular is checked.

2. Using the Text Tool , select TIGERS. Two “handles” appear at the baseline of the word. Grab the right handle (by the letter S) and move it to a vertical position (90 degrees will display in the lower left corner) or using the grid as a guideline. Hint: Using the handles, stretch or contract TIGERS.

3. Switch back to the Selection Tool , unselect TIGERS by clicking outside the box and open the text box.

4. Using the same font, change the Size to 4, type 12 in the Text line, select backgrounds (x in the checkbox) and unselect perpendicular. Apply.

5. Following the instructions in step 2, move 12 to a vertical position. Hint: if the numbers overlap, stretch the line with one of the “handles.”

6. Center the design by selecting the Green button .

7. Proceed to Select a Stitch and Create a Disk in this tutorial.

NOTE: When sewing overlapping pieces of appliqué, refer to Layers guidelines.
