How to Sew an Appliqué Design Using Embroidery Equipment
 
Zig Zag Stitch Design  
A1) Placement / Outline stitch sews first to show where to place the appliqué piece. A1 - Zig Zag Stitch
A2) Place appliqué to cover the placement / outline stitch using embroidery spray adhesive on back of appliqué. A2 - Zig Zag Stitch
A3) Sew appliqué with zig zag stitch. A3 - Zig Zag Stitch
A4) If appliqué has second color / layer, repeat steps 1, 2 and 3. A4 - Zig Zag Stitch
A5) Finished 2-color appliqué. A5 - Zig Zag Stitch
 
Satin Stitch Design  
B1) Placement / Outline stitch sews first to show where to place the appliqué piece. B1 - Satin Stitch
B2) Place appliqué to cover the placement / outline stitch using embroidery spray adhesive on back of appliqué. B2 - Satin Stitch
B3) Sew appliqué with a loose tack down stitch to hold in place. B3 - Satin Stitch
B4) Sew satin stitch. B4 - Satin Stitch
 
Program Thread and Sewing Color Sequence for an Appliqué  
1) Load sew disk.  
2) Select the first color (placement stitch) to be the same color as the appliqué piece.  
3) Place a stop to allow for placement of the appliqué piece and use the "off set" or "hoop feed" feature to move hoop out from under the needles for placement.  
4) Select the color for zig zag stitch or tack down if using satin stitch.  
   
• You have finished  if you are only sewing a 1-color appliqué.  
• If applying a satin stitch, select the color for the finishing satin stitch.  
• If applying a second color / layer, repeat steps 1, 2, 3 and 4.
