Layers Guidelines

The layer bar, located in the lower right corner of your screen, allows you to determine the stitching order of your appliqué pieces. The first square is colored in, the remaining squares are marked with an X. Each square represents a layer and each layer change is automatically programmed with a color change signal. The layers will stitch in the order of the colored squares, from left to right.

When to use the layer function:

Whenever your design contains overlapping layers of appliqué fabric (the machine needs to know which pieces to stitch first).

Whenever you want to add a color change signal between pieces, even if they don’t overlap.

Adding/Deleting layers:

1. Position the point of the selection tool on an X square in the layer bar.

2. Right click on the square to reveal a Layer Menu.

3. Left click on Add Layer. The second square in the row should now be colored.

4. Repeat this process until the desired number of layers are added.

5. To delete layers, repeat steps 1 and 2. Left click on Delete Empty Layers.

To apply layers to design:

1. Using the selection tool , select the design element you want to stitch first.

2. Right click on the first colored square to reveal the Layer Selection Menu.

3. Left click on Set Selection Layer. The selected letter /object will change colors to match the layer square.

4. Repeat for each layer to be sewn. Remember, the layers will stitch in the order of the colored squares, from left to right.

To change the order of stitching:

1. Remember, the layers will stitch in the order of the colored squares, from left to right, so to change the stitching order you need to change the order of the colored squares.

2. Using the selection tool , select the colored square you want to change and drag it to the new position.

3. For example: Let’s assume the current stitching order is BLUE - RED - GREEN. (Whatever is blue sews first; red second; green third.) To change the sewing order where green will sew first, grab the green square and drag it to the first location where the blue square is. Your new stitching order is GREEN - BLUE - RED. (Now all the letters / objects outlined in green will sew first, etc.)

To change colors in the layer bar:

1. Right click on a colored square to reveal the Layer Selection Menu.

2. Left click on Layer Color to reveal a color grid.

3. Choose a color. Click OK. (Range of active color choices will vary depending on the capabilities of your computer)
