When to use zig-zag stitching:
Definitely on shapes under 3 in height, but can be used on any size appliqué.
For small, detailed shapes with elements narrower than 1/2.
For an authentic athletic or tackle twill look. To lower stitch count by as
much as 75% over satin stitching.
When to use satin stitching:
Best on shapes larger than 3 in height.
To add a contrast color.
To add a contrasting texture
Hint: Use wide stitching on large, simple shapes and
letters (5 or
taller) and for thick or bulky fabrics (quilted jackets, stadium blankets,
etc.). Narrow stitching looks best on small, detailed design elements.
